At the same time, the radio offers a host of weather channels from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), so you can learn about approaching storms or hurricanes well before they hit. And if that weren't enough, it's also compatible with up to 40 commercial Land Mobile Radio (LMR) channels with CTCSS or DCS signaling, though a Standard Horizon dealer will need to program the channels (and users are responsible for obtaining the appropriate FCC license).
As with any well-built marine radio, the HX370SAS is rugged and fully waterproof, with a compact design that can withstand submersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. It's also a breeze to browse through the channels using the scan function, either without priority (starting from lowest to highest) or while monitoring emergency channels 16 and 9 and the NOAA weather alert, which warns you of inclement conditions. Other operational details include a Preset key that easily recalls your eight most-used channels, an oversized LCD with channel names, and a high-intensity strobe light that emits the internally recognized S.O.S. signal during emergencies--a must for any boater. The HX370SAS is also certified as "intrinsically safe," which means the radio itself and such accessories as the FNB-V57IS ni-cad battery pack, the CMP460 speaker microphone, and the FVP-31 voice scrambler meet the requirements of ANSI/UL913 6th edition for use in intrinsically safe environments, and are also built to withstand the day-in, day-out punishment of hostile commercial environments. The latter group includes: Class 1: flammable gases, vapors, or liquids; Div. 1 Group A (acetylene), Group B (hydrogen), Group C (ethylene), Group D (propane); Class 2: combustible dusts; Div. 1 Group E (metals), Group F (coal), Group G (grain); and Class 3: ignitable fibers and flyings.
When you're not using the 5-watt radio, simply drop it in the included charging cradle, which will keep the rechargeable ni-cad battery operating at full capacity. Also included is an AC charger and a quick-draw belt clip. And because dead batteries can be a serious safety hazard on the water, the HX370SAS sports a battery life indicator on the LCD that warns you when the battery needs charging.
