You can set it on 6 watts, but it's far less radio than a 5 watt Standard or Uniden in same price range. I bought it for the float & waterproof features, but I'm disappointed with its VHF reception/transmission. It's ok for the money, I guess, but I wouldn't recommend it for reliable marine use.
