I chose this because the reviews said it was thicker than standard mats, which is what I need due to tender bones/joints. It met my expectations in this regard - not too hard, not too squishy. It seems to need a "recovery" time after being compressed (or stood on), so make sure you don't store it under heavy objects. There was a bit of a synthetic smell when I opened the packaging (which I hate) but after I aired it out for a while, the smell was completely gone. Even during Bikram class, the heat did not bring out any foul odours while I was face down on the mat. The only problem I had was that my feet would slip during Bikram class, and I wasn't even sweating that much. I will try putting a towel on top.
