Previously had one collar and used leash w/one. This system works much better. Trained younger dog first. Older dog "got-it" much more quickly. Almost never need to 'NIC' older dog. Both VERY bright dogs - GERMAN SHEPHERD and AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD mix. After using for about 2-3 weeks exclusively, only need to use 'CALL' (vibrate) buttons when walking them.
