The balls are made of a high quality, durable resin material, with the Playaboule logo molded in. Because the balls are translucent the LED light can shine through making the balls glow in the dark. I'm from France where the game of boules is a national pass time. The Glo boules are a lighter weight version of the boules but a lot of fun. I gave them to my nephew as a gift and got to play with all my family this summer in France. It was really cool. They can also blink. They do have 2 draw backs. Two of the boules didn't work well and we had to change the batteries . It takes 3 round flat batteries for each. The game does come with a bunch of extra ones, but once you're out of them it must get expensive to replace. I don't know how long they last. You cannot play on a hard surface such a asphalt or gravel because they will get scratched. We played on grass and on the beach. I do think it's worth buying them. They also make for some cool pictures.
