These balls are not designed for league competition play or extremely abrasive surfaces like gravel pathways as the balls will of course scratch. NOTE: If you have played petanque with competition balls or are French and expect these to be as resilient as competition balls they are NOT. Competition balls start at approx $80 and can go up to more than $300 for a set of 3 ONLY and that does not include a case. These balls are great for someone to practice with or the occasional player that does not want the expense of a true competition set. Even though the new balls didn't help me score better~ they were bright and shiny and well worth the money. The carrying case is a nice blue color and certainly does the job.
