I have been throwing sharp objects in my spare time for the last 12 years and once I found this thrower it quickly became my favorite. It is very nicely weighted and the double axe blades allow it to stick in the target even if you are over 1/4 rotation off in either direction, which is excellent for teaching newbies (or warming up and remembering where your 1-spin mark is). While it is sold as an axe, it is compact enough that I throw it like a knife, though it can be a little hairy to throw half-spins (held by the blade).
I started with some cheaper, lighter, stamped throwers, and not only will they bend after enough abuse, they are harder to throw consistently, especially over longer distances where the lack of weight will cause them to flutter or tumble out of the vertical plane (like throwing cardboard). These heavier Hibbens are much more durable, and weighted well enough that I can pull off a full 3-spin throw even in moderate wind (maybe not always a bulls eye...). You get what you pay for!
The handle also has some nice features to help consistent release for several different grip styles; I like to throw with my thumb on the flat of the handle (where there is a nice groove) and my first two fingers wrapped around the forward edge (where the mild concave radius provides a good grip). There is also a textured indent where your thumb can rest if you prefer a full fist grip. Many cheaper throwers have narrower handles or uniform convex curvature which makes it harder to get a consistent grip and release.
