The Mammen Axe, one of the best-known and best-decorated examples of the small Viking throwing axe, is a perfect example of the Viking’s blend of art and war. Excavated from a famous 10th century barrow near Mammen Denmark, the original is decorated with silver inlaid engraving in a typical Celtic manner. Our recreation of this beautiful piece is a tribute to the creative as well as the martial side of this dynamic, influential culture.

This is a great reproduction of a a silver engraved axe found in a chamber tomb in Mammen on Jutland, Denmark. The engraving is well done and follows closely the patterns of the original. I bought it as a wall hanger, however it is well made and comes sharp enough to be functional. I had no problems with the fit of the handle, however if I did intend to use the axe extensively I would replace the handle, as it feels a little puny to me. This axe will funtion well as a thrower, a wall hanger, or with a stouter handle as a hand axe.
