Buck Knives 757BK Camp Axe is an ergonomic head weighted hatchet. It has a 3" forged, powder coated high carbon steel blade. It is 12-1/4" in overall length and weighs 17.2 oz. The Camp Axe features an ergonomic shaped high impact plastic handle, with grip ridges molded along its length for a secure grip. I wanted a super tough yet lightweight camp hatchet and did pretty extensive research before buying this one. Before buying it I was under the assumption that 1) this was made in the US by Buck and 2) it would come at least reasonably sharp. As it turns out, this camp axe is made in China and the blade was literally as dull as a butter knife when I got it from Amazon. I had to spend a couple of hours with a file and sharpening stone to get it sharp enough to be of use. Maybe I got one that missed quality control as others have said their axe came sharp so who knows. It's still a decent little splitting hatchet and feels good in the hand but it's still just a Chinese made dull hatchet out of the box. For a better alternative, try a US-made Sears Camp Hatchet (for only $16.99!) or a Fiskars 14" Hatchet (made in Finland, far superior chopper and is cheaper than the Buck on Amazon) or an 18" handle Council Tool Hudson Bay Camp Axe (US made and will chop twice as fast for under $35 online). Do your self a favor and spend your money on hatchets\axes made in countries where pride and quality control still count and the workers are paid and treated decently (USA, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, etc). You will thank yourself in the long run by getting a better product and helping to rebuild our economy (and countries like ours who trade with us and don't use slave labor).
