They are a great prophylactic for preventing ankle sprains if you are prone to them or as a step down brace when recovering from one. They are easy to put on adjust with a single wrap aound strap and fit in every pair of shoes I own including my Vibram 5Fingers. I would not suggest these for new or persistant sprains.
